Drosera capensis is one of the easiest carnivorous plants to grow. It has long, slender leaves with dewy 'hairs' on one side which it uses to trap prey. The wide leaf variety is a nice green colored leaf with the characteristic red hairs that hold the dew. The leaves are quite noticeably wider than the typical Cape Sundew. They produce 12" tall flower scapes filled with showy pink to purple flowers.
Ā Plants are available in a 3.5" pot and will be shipped potted. They can grow quite large- larger than typical Drosera capensis.Ā
Drosera Care: Sundews do best in part shade to bright sunlight. They are well suited for growing on window ledges. They must be watered with non-chlorinated water preferably with a low TDS (between 0 and 25ppm). You can use rain water or distilled. Allow to dry slightly but not completely in between waterings. When watering, place plants in a tray and pour water in tray about 1/2ā (referred to as the tray method). Avoid watering the crown of the plant. Temperature should be maintained between 60Ā°F and 80Ā°F. Humidity isn't terribly important. Sundews generally tolerate typical household humidities. If your Drosera has little to no dew, increase light. They generally do well in a terrarium.
